Bulgaria took part in “The World's largest lesson”

28 Sep 2015
The initiative is implemented in partnership between UNICEF, the Bulgarian network of the UN Global Compact and the Ministry of Education and Science.

On 28th September at our capital 10 School "Teodor Trajanov" was held "The World's largest lesson" - a global initiative designed to introduce in front of over 500 million children and youths around the world, problems like poverty, inequality and climate change. This happened just a day after the anniversary of the 70th session of the United Nations adopted the new 17 Global sustainable development goals for the next 15 years. They are aimed at outstanding achievements in three basic dimensions - economic, social and ecological balance.

In the first lesson held in Bulgaria, students from fifth grade were introduced to 17 new goals and committed to provide creative ideas to solve today's challenges facing humanity. Lesson was attended by Mr. Ognian Trajanov, CEO of TechnoLogica and Chairman of the Bulgarian network of the UN Global Compact, the Deputy Minister of Education and Science Prof. Kostadin Kostadinov and Ms María Jesús Conde, UNICEF Representative in Bulgaria.

"With all our actions, we must uphold the motto of our organization: business - a force for good. Responsible businesses comply with applicable laws and social responsibility, but actually the most important need is our responsibility to you - children! You are the future of this planet, but to have the opportunity to develop and to create in a better world, we must act here and now, to ensure this, "said Mr. Ognian Trajanov.

Bulgarian network of the UN Global Compact has already assessed and recognized objectives that are relevant for Bulgaria and especially those for whose implementation the business can contribute. We are to hold a day of strategic planning with our members to draw a roadmap of Bulgaria for their achievement.

First is undoubtedly education and care for adolescents. The network held its project "I am proud of the work of my parents" for third year and its purpose is to instill in children respect to labor, to money as a measure of personal contribution and not as an end in itself and to help youths in choosing a profession. The project started as an event of the "Open Day for our children", in the second year was upgraded to exchange visits of children between the companies, and this year there will be a bazaar of professions open to all children.

Other objectives that Bulgarian network identified as priority are those that address healthy work and life, economic growth and decent work, innovation, responsible consumption, sustainable cities and communities, peace and justice. And the way to achieve each goal is Responsible Business respecting the 10 principles of the Global Compact, as well as partnership, innovation and synergy through collective projects Bulgarian network develops.
